The parliamentary elections will be held in the state of Uttar Pradesh, in seven phases, from 10 February to 7 March 2022. The votes will be counted on 10 March 2022, and the final result will be published on that day.

The voting pattern of the state is very interesting. So, let us discuss the possible results in the forthcoming elections.

Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election 2022

Uttar Pradesh has a population of about 237 million (23.7 Crores) people. It is the most populous state in India, with about 77% of the total population residing in rural areas. The state is divided into 403 constituencies.

Uttar Pradesh has a vast voter base. However, the voting pattern is different in various parts of the state. There is one party that has a clear majority and another which is not far behind. However, some specific trends and patterns can give us a rough idea of the final election outcome. Let us analyze these trends.

The counting will be done at more than 458 polling stations in over 400 places in Uttar Pradesh. A candidate needs a simple majority of votes in any constituency to get elected. There is no need for an absolute majority in all the constituencies to form a government.

However, a candidate needs more than half of the valid votes cast in any one constituency to form a government. For the complete election results, check out this link: https://www.elections.in/assembly-constituencies/up.htm?

As I have noted earlier, a total of 403 constituencies will be contested. In 2012, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) had allied and won 71 seats. In 2018, the BSP and the INC will contest together again. But this time, the main opposition party is Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party (SP). If the SP wins at least 45 seats and the BJP does not win more than 25, then the SP and the BSP will form a coalition government.

The Background Of Elections in Uttar Pradesh

The state is divided into 403 constituencies. Uttar Pradesh has a huge voter base. However, the voting pattern is different in various parts of the state.

The BJP has been in power for 08 years, and they have done a lot of work. But, Soon after the BJP came to power, many people were killed in Gorakhpur. This made the BJP lose some votes. This factor will likely play a role in the upcoming elections.

The BSP is a social movement in Uttar Pradesh. It was started in 1983 by Kanshi Ram to bring Dalits into politics. This party is represented in all three tiers of the Uttar Pradesh state legislative assembly. In 2004, Mulayam Singh Yadav, leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), contested the Lok Sabha election from Amroha. Mulayam Singh Yadav was a popular leader of the SP.

He also challenged from a number of other constituencies in the 2004 Lok Sabha election. After he died in 2012, his son Akhilesh Yadav contested for the Lok Sabha election. He contested from five constituencies, including Mainpuri. Akhilesh Yadav is a popular leader in UP as well. So, it can be said that Akhilesh Yadav is still the Samajwadi Party (SP) leader.

The BSP was the third-largest party in 2017, and Mayawati led it. Akhilesh Yadav has been a leader of the SP for more than 10 years now. But he does not have much experience as a leader.

Congress has been in power for 12 years in Uttar Pradesh. In 2007, they formed a coalition government with the BSP and got re-elected. In 2012, they formed a coalition again with the BSP. But their alliance lasted only six months. So, in 2014, they contested separately. In 2018, they joined hands with the BSP.

This time, they are expected to win more seats in the state. The BSP is also likely to do well in 2022 as well. They have a good network of workers across various parts of the state. They have been able to build up this network over a period of time.
